North Dallas includes the area of Preston Hollow, Bluffview, The Meadows, several gated communities including Glen Lakes and Lake Forest, and any part of Dallas that is north of downtown and south of 635/LBJ and not part of the Park Cities. The Preston Hollow area is noted for its country feel in the middle of the city. The North Dallas area provides a lifestyle for everyone: historic areas, new construction including McMansions, townhouses, vast estates, condominiums, high-rise living and single-family residences in the Dallas Independent School District. Highly-respected private schools abound.
Many elegant and spacious homes grace the Preston Hollow corridor between Preston and as far west as Midway. Homes are built with as much as an acre between neighbors. Architectural styles abound, but brick construction is prevalent. Frame homes are practically non-existent, but current trends provide homes with Austin stone exteriors or stone accents. Contemporary design is rare, while traditional homes dominate the area. Serving North Dallas, Park Cities and East Dallas is one of the most successful malls in the country-North Park Center, anchored by Neiman Marcus, Nordstroms, and Macys. It also provides elegant movie theaters, fine dining and many fine fashion retailers. Shopping is definitely a recreational sport.
North Dallas is an expansive area that includes many distinct neighborhoods and offers everything from bungalows to the grandest of estate homes on acreage sites. The majority of North Dallas is located in Dallas County, while a small portion is in Denton and Collin counties.
